Long known for producing legendary Cabernet Sauvignon, the 55+ wineries of the Calistoga AVA continue to diversify. The wineries and growers range from boutique to fairly large, and almost all are family-owned. It’s not uncommon to meet the winemaker and/or owner during a visit. The wineries are very focused on super premium quality and the vintners know the value of their unique growing environment in the volcanic soils of the Calistoga region, where afternoon breezes give way to cool mountain nighttime temperatures – ideal conditions for quality grape growing.
